Malt's own help centre publishes an explicit open/blocked country table for freelancer registration: "Malt distinguishes open countries (registration allowed) and blocked countries (registration refused)" - and "ZA - South Africa" is in the open column, where "the platform is open to all freelancers regardless of status or legal form." Checked separately on the payment side too: their guide to paying international freelancers lists which countries bank-transfer payment is NOT authorised for (mostly other African nations - Burundi, Botswana, DRC, CAR, Ivory Coast, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe) - South Africa is not on that list either, so payment genuinely works, not just registration.
